I have been asked to create a website for a friend, he is wanting to sell items from it. Does anyone know of an easy/secure shopping cart that I can install onto the website ?

Absolutely, it's all there ready for you if you use Joomla to build the site.

It's the fastest, best way to do anything website wise these days and best of all it's Gratis.. I love Joomla.

Agreed. There are several excellent cart systems but most come with a price tag. Joomla = free + cart! Thats the way forward.
Register for hosting with any new domain at www.hostmonster.com for example and you'll see Joomla at the bottom of the cpanel.

The system I advise has an 'Auto Installation' for many things which includes Joomla - Get an account HERE (http://www.servage.net/?coupon=cust32225) (That Voucher Code will get you more space).

Once you have an account you can ask them (the system - not ask them personally as there is a bit in the control panel regarding auto inistallation of scripts) to install many things in seconds - it's ALL done for you (no messing with databases etc).

I have advised many to use this service in the past - I have been using them for many years (many chose not to take my advice and now understand the error of their ways.).

So, use this service and be happy - use a lower quality service and be sorry (I have seen this so many times as people think that saving 20p a month is worth the risk).. LOL - you know who you are :)

If you are still looking for a shopping cart, there are a number of good ones out there depending on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a free cart option, if you are using Joomla you can use their cart as Paulvev mentioned, or you can use FatFreeCart. Ones that have a price tag on them can include carts like Zen Cart, X-Cart, E-junkie, Payloadz and Shopify to name a few. These carts give you some great options when it comes to setting up the cart and multiple payment processors can be used with them.
